Dr. Mina Abdelshahed is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a focus on shoulder and elbow surgery. He handles a full array of procedures related to the shoulder and elbow, including sports-related injuries, fractures, joint replacements, and reconstructions using arthroscopic, minimally invasive, and open surgeries.

He also performs GPS-navigated total shoulder replacements. “This allows me to pre-operatively plan the surgery prior to entering the operating room and then accurately place the shoulder replacement, which improves clinical outcomes for the patient,” he says.

Dr. Abdelshahed works alongside nine other doctors in the practice—Drs. Richard Mackessy, David Rojer, Nathaniel Sutain, Naomi Gold, Christopher Ropiak, Irene Labib, Mark Ghobrial, Aaron Rubinstein, and Jeffrey Tompson—who manage every aspect of orthopaedic surgery and podiatry as well as interventional spine/pain management.

“Each patient is different and needs a different approach,” he says. “We always want to do the right thing for the patient, and we only recommend surgery when it is necessary. But when surgery is needed, we use the newest and best technologies to perform this, whether it’s arthroscopic or open procedures.”

Dr. Abdelshahed is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and is a board member for the New Jersey Orthopedic Society. He is also an active advocate for patients. He is the chairman of orthopaedic surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway, is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and continues to educate others in the field of orthopaedic surgery.
