We wrote about Hunterdon’s 579 Trail for our October Fall Day Trips guide. Now, the abundance of fun to be had on Route 579 continues into the holiday season. During your festive outing, stop by the more than 50 farms, markets, wineries and shops. Along the way, you can fill your holiday table, cut down a Christmas tree, and find unique gifts.
The 579 Trail (hunterdon579trail.com) is an online guide to more than 50 sites located within a few miles of Hunterdon County’s historic Route 579. The website features an interactive trail map to guide visitors through the historic agricultural region. The trail is about 25 miles long and meanders roughly North to South from Bloomsbury (North) to East Amwell (South).

Peterson Family Farm offers a variety of cut-your-own trees including Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and Douglas Fir. Visitors can select and “tag” their tree as early as Thanksgiving weekend, then return when they are ready to take it home. If you don’t want to head out into the field, look for the big red barn with a white cupola on top. Inside you will find a selection of fresh cut trees along with wreaths, table centerpieces, handmade pine roping and holiday ornaments. Peterson Family Farm is open Friday-Sunday beginning Friday, November 27th and is located at 438 Quakertown Road in Franklin Township, NJ.
Old York Cellars kicks off the holiday season November 19-22 with “BeauJersey Nouveau” Weekend, a New Jersey twist on the French tradition of celebrating the first wines of the season. Reservations are required for table seating. Old York Cellars opens daily at 12 pm and is located at 80 Old York Road in Ringoes, NJ. Ironbound Farm is a regenerative farm and cidery open year-round with picturesque views from atop the New Jersey hills. In the Cider Garden, enjoy hard cider or seltzer, or a cider cocktail paired with simple, seasonal fare made with fresh ingredients grown on the farm. In the winter, fires warm up the rustic outdoor gathering space. The Ironbound Farm Market offers vegetables, meat, and eggs as well as hard cider and seltzers, fortified ciders, and holiday gift cider kits. The Ironbound Farm Market & Cider Garden is open Fridays-Sundays and is located at 360 County Road 579 in Asbury, NJ. Reservations strongly suggested.
WoodsEdge Farm is home to alpacas, llamas, and Tibetan yaks. The Farm Store sells hand painted alpaca, llama, and yak ornaments. Visitors are welcome to take photos and feed the animals with staff supervision. The farm store is open Friday through Sunday, 10-4pm November through January and is located at 78 Bowne Station Road, Stockton, NJ.
Bobolink Dairy and Bakehouse has everything for a farm-to-table meal including grass fed raw milk cheese, pasture raised meats, and wood-fired rustic breads. Holiday items include homemade sausage, charcuterie, and specialty breads. The farm store is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 12-6pm. Saturday and Sunday 9am-5pm. It is located at 369 Stamets Road in Milford, NJ.
Stangl Factory Farmer’s market is open year-round on Saturdays offering fresh produce, meats and poultry, and specialty foods. During the holiday season, the market doubles in size with decadent baked goods, homemade jams, local honey, and artisan goods. Expanded market hours for December are Saturday and Sunday, 9-3pm through December 20th. Stockton Market is a community market offering a variety of locally sourced goods: produce, pasture-raised meats, handmade chocolates, artisan baked goods, flowers and dried spices. The market is brimming with holiday goods including handmade gifts, seasonal topiaries, and herbs for your stuffing. The market offerings are complimented by an array of food stalls including BBQ 434, D’Town Dumpling, and Maria’s Cocina. The Stockton Market is open Wednesday-Sunday and is located at 19 Bridge Street in Stockton. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, holiday hours may vary.
