A tribute to both the city’s musical roots and the late Newark-born pop singer, a colorful 19- by 28- foot mural comprised of more than 1,000 pounds of hand-cut glass mosaic will smile down on William Street, in Newark’s Central Ward.
Just three blocks from Prudential Center, the large-scale piece by Newark-based artist Maude Lemaire was unveiled in a virtual program on Wednesday, December 16. View the ceremony here.
Lemaire is a self-taught glass artist whose objective is to bring more vibrant colors and shapes with an avant-garde touch into the world. She has been commissioned by Newark and Jersey City to create and install mosaic works in several locations.
