New Jersey’s biggest film festival is kicking things off next month with a new drama, Wild Horse Nine, from Oscar-winning director Martin McDonagh.
Wild Horse Nine, starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as CIA agents in the 1970s, is set to open the annual celebration of film on Friday, October 16 at 7 pm at the Wellmont Theater. McDonagh previously directed Rockwell in his Oscar-winning turn in the 2017 film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
On the animated front, the centerpiece is Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn, featuring the voices of both Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson. The Netflix film is slated to debut on Saturday, October 17 at 4:15 pm at the Wellmont.
Oscar-winning director Ava DuVuvernay’s film 14th, about the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, is the festival’s centerpiece in the documentary category. It’s screening on Friday, October 23 at 7:30 pm at Montclair Kimberley Academy.
Behemoth!, from Tony Gilroy, is set to close out the festival on Sunday, October 25. It stars Pedro Pascal as a gifted cellist.
The festival runs from October 16 to 25, and films screen at various locations in Montclair.
The full lineup is set to be released on September 25. Tickets go on sale September 28 for Montclair Film members and October 1 for the general public.
In addition to the movies, the festival typically attracts an array of starry guests, such as Montclair’s own Stephen Colbert (whose wife, Evelyn McGee Colbert, is a Montclair Film trustee and president emeritus), Jon Bon Jovi and Ina Garten, for panel discussions and Q&As.
