Opening
The Hudson Rose, Nutley
What once was the two-story Franklin Steakhouse is now the Hudson Rose, a New York City-inspired restaurant serving elevated American fare and drinks. The new restaurant comes from chef Andrew Riccatelli, a former Chopped winner, and pastry chef Raechel Lebron. The daily dinner menu features dishes like caviar hot dogs, whole dry aged duck for two, filet mignon, and a raw bar. There are signature cocktails, draft and bottled beers, and an extensive wine list. The second floor of the building is dubbed as the Harlow Room, which will be used for events. In the coming weeks, lunch and brunch will be served.

Cafe Cartel, Hoboken
A new coffee shop is in Hoboken. Cafe Cartel is a Colombian coffee shop with coffee imported from the city of Medellín. The cafe plays on the cartel crime theme by labeling itself as “your local caffeine dealer” and “your silent partner in caffeine crimes” in several Instagram posts. Plus, the shop is black and red themed, and its logo is a skull wearing a black cowboy hat and red bandana mask. A variety of hot and iced coffee drinks are served daily, in addition to pastries and empanadas.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Jersey City
With shops continuing to pop up across the country, pints being sold in various grocers, and online ordering with nationwide shipping, this ice cream chain is a national hit. Van Leeuwen’s second New Jersey location opened this week, three years after its first shop opened in East Rutherford’s American Dream. The shop serves fresh hand scooped ice cream in its signature dairy and vegan flavors, like earl gray tea, marionberry cheesecake and peanut butter brownie honeycomb, as well as pre-packaged pints, sandwiches and bars.

Acts of Graze has been a charcuterie board and table caterer since 2021, specializing in classic grazing and brunch boards. It will continue to provide catering services while operating its first brick-and-mortar location.

Closing
Good Dog Bar, Atlantic City
This dog-inspired (and dog-friendly) restaurant-bar announced earlier this week that its Atlantic City location would be closing on Sunday, August 11. Good Dog Bar, known for its elevated bar bites, like wings and cheesesteaks, and plenty of beers and libations, is a Philadelphia-based bar that opened its Jersey Shore spot back in May 2023. “Despite all our tireless efforts and dedication to keeping Good Dog Bar in Atlantic City thriving, the economic challenges we have faced here have become insurmountable,” the owners wrote in a closing statement. The Philadelphia location, which has been a popular spot in Center City for two decades, will remain open.
