While our Thanksgiving celebrations may be curtailed a bit this year, there is always room at the table for great wine to go with great food! Here are the wines that are going to grace our tables this year.

Sparkling Whites

Perfect both as an aperitif to get the celebrations rolling, sparkling wine is increasingly paired with turkey. The underlying acidity helps revive the palate after eating the weighty bird.

Laurent Perrier, the fifth largest producer in Champagne, has been making great bubbles since 1812. This bottle is rich enough for turkey and a great way to liven up any celebration. Renown wine critic James Suckling rated this wine a 93 (outstanding) and said, “The brioche and cooked-apple and cream character really comes through here. Full-bodied and round with fine bubbles. Flavorful and intense. Vivid, bread-dough finish.”

White Wines

When selecting white wine for Thanksgiving, either match the body of the turkey with a big full-bodied white like a Chardonnay or try a lively and refreshing medium-bodied white like a Sauvignon Blanc.

It’s easy to see why this wine has been a standard-bearer of New Zealand the past 20 years. Its aromas of citrus fruit, tropical fruit and subtle herb notes come through in each sip. It also packs in flavor on its medium-bodied frame, with loads of passion fruit layered with fresh peach and grapefruit flavors.

Red Wines

When California winemakers go to Oregon to get the best Pinot Noir, what to you get? A stunning wine that is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner! Black cherries and dark berry flavors with nuances of clove and vanilla will have you reaching for another glass. It’s great structure, with a finish of raspberry and cherry jam and a kiss of white pepper offer a flavor that pairs beautifully with turkey.

Another great turkey pairing is Chianti. This wine, only made in the best vintages and a classic in the field, combines deep rich fruit with enough tannin and acidity to refresh the palate. Cherry fruit with red berries, sweet spices, and loamy earth can easily complement everything on the Thanksgiving dinner table!

One of our favorite sweeter red wines, this German red has flavors of black plums, cherries and red berries and is silky smooth. Slightly sweet, but not cloying, it is a great choice for those who find red wines too dry.

Started in 1996, Joel Gott seeks out the best grapes they can find each year and produces some of the best deals on the market. This wine has aromas of raspberries, blackberries and dried cranberry with notes of vanilla and spice. The wine opens with dark fruit flavors and vanilla, followed by velvety tannins on the mid-palate, and a long finish with hints of spice.

Sometimes you just want a special red to drink while celebrating with your family, and this is that Red! Enjoy aromas of fresh black currants and cherries accompanied by subtle smoky notes and dried spices. “On the palate, this lavish powerful wine is layered with juicy blackberry, ripe cherry, vanilla bean and brown butter,” 95pts Wine Enthusiast.
