Let’s Go: Market In May Designer “Garage Sale”

If you're a fan of the Mansion in May decorator show house, you'll love the first-ever Market in May this weekend. Premier vendors will offer furniture, rugs, lamps, art, antiques, pottery, gifts, jewelry and men's and women's apparel at insider prices...

On May 17, 18 and 19, designers and vendors from Morristown Medical Center’s Mansion In May will sell household furnishings, gifts and fashion accessories at insider prices as part of its inaugural Market In May, sponsored by the hospital’s women’s association. The event will be at the Hyatt Morristown at Headquarters Plaza. All proceeds will benefit the women’s heart program at Morristown Medical Center.

“The original idea for Market In May came from our Mansion In May designers," says Cathy Biczak, Market In May Co-Chair. "We are delighted to create a special event around their concept of ‘great design at insider prices.’  Especially since our Women’s Association signature event of Mansion In May is typically held every other year, our members and Mansion visitors asked us to come up with an ‘off-Mansion year’ event."

"The designers’ offerings will be priced like a garage sale," says Patty Mullens, Market In May Co-Chair.  "We know bargain shoppers and lovers of great home fashions will want to take advantage of some terrific values on designer merchandise. Shoppers will have fun discovering great gift, jewelry and fashion finds at our boutique vendors."

As an added feature, on Friday, May 17, by appointment, ticket holders are invited to bring their own art, jewelry or decorative accessories for a professional appraisal from Doyle New York, Auctioneers and Appraisers, for a fee of $5 per item.  "Market In May is all about finding that great new treasure for your home or for yourself," says Christie Gisser, one of the three event co-chairs. "We love the idea of also giving people a chance to learn the value of their own treasures from home, similar to ‘Antiques Roadshow’ on TV."  Visitors may schedule appointments at MarketInMay.org.

Advance-sale tickets are available online for $10 at MarketInMay.org. The event is available to the general public on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and on Sunday, May 19 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you purchase a $10 ticket ONLINE, you may attend Market in May on any ONE of the three days, and you may enter the event one hour early on that day. Tickets purchased at the door will be $12.

Proceeds of this first-ever Market In May event will go to the Women’s Heart Program at Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical, " says Beth Wipperman, President of the 900-member Women’s Association of Morristown Medical Center.  "Most of the past research on treating heart disease has been done on men, but doctors now know that women cannot be grouped with men where heart disease is concerned.  Women experience different symptoms and have different types of heart conditions.  The Women’s Heart Center at Gagnon was launched to correct these gender inequalities, beginning with education and gender-specific treatment. The idea over time is to conduct more women-based research and to reach more women in our community who need proper care."

Grab your friends and make a day of it in Morristown…cafe lunch and coffee bar will be available. Market In May offers free parking in the Hyatt Morristown parking garage (beneath the hotel) at 3 Speedwell Avenue in Morristown.
