As you begin planning your Shore vacation, you may want to keep in mind that Belmar is looking to increase their on street parking to $2 an hour this summer.

According to the Asbury Park Press, the $1 per hour meter fee could increase to $2 for 320 metered spots on the eastern side of Ocean Avenue.

Borough administrator Colleen Connolly told the press:

“The meters take dollars and credit cards. They don’t take coins or give change,” she says. “If we did anything less than whole dollar increments you’d be overpaying.”

The increase aims to raise more money through the beach utility fund to pay for capital improvements without affecting borough taxpayers. A public hearing on the ordinance will be held on April 7.

Exit 98 beachgoers who would rather put their money toward delicious shore cuisine or fine New Jersey beer might head to Belmar’s neighbors to the north or south. Both Avon-by-the-Sea and Spring Lake have free street parking.
