Cheap Maggie’s: Deep Discounts on Fave Labels

Get lots more for much less in Hoboken and Morris Plains...

discount shopping
Discount shopping at Cheap Maggie's means I'll finish my holiday shopping by Thanksgiving.

Readers always ask me to steer them toward big sales and unbelievable discounts. Well, here’s one of my favorite New Jersey resources! Cheap Maggie’s in Hoboken (216 Washington Street) and Morris Plains (2960 Route 10) is a huge store, chock-full of brand-name women’s, men’s and kids’ designer clothing, shoes, accessories and home decor.

The best thing about Cheap Maggie’s is its merchandising. Many racks are organized by manufacturer, so it’s super easy to shop all the funky Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Outfitters looks. But you can also find Ralph Lauren, Minnie Rose, Adidas and other more traditional labels here. Each price tag bears the manufacturer’s name, retail price and Cheap Maggie’s deeply discounted price. During my recent visit, I scooped up a $175 Anthro boho skirt for $24.99. (I’ve noticed that $24.99 and $34.99 seem to be popular price points for well-made garments.)

Founded in Hoboken, Cheap Maggie’s was started by two partners with 40+ years of combined experience in the off-price retail business. Their relationships with hundreds of vendors, showrooms, manufacturers and importers enables them to offer authentic closeouts of top brands of clothing, shoes and accessories at big values.

My other recent shopping conquests include fabulous designer pants for my husband, all discounted about 80 percent. Lucky him…I couldn’t decide on which fall colors to take home, so I snagged six pairs of sale-priced trousers, all for the regular retail price of just a single pair. Over the summer, I also found brand-name men’s swimming trunks for up to 90 percent off.

Did I mention shoes?  Those pricey Free People brocade ankle boots I was drooling over last year?  I spied them at CM, marked down to $34.99 from $200-something. Men’s shoe racks also line the wall, with prices that made me look twice.

For holiday gifting (or year-round discount shopping), you can’t beat the sale tables that are piled high with fabulous coffee table books, fragrance, tabletop and pet gifts, many of them closeout deals from Urban Outfitters and C. Wonder. Decorative goodies like Urban Outfitters shower curtains, pillow shams and tablecloths are in abundance. I also discovered a huge selection of Crosley turntables, vinyl LPs, headphones and hip sunglasses. For the sports fan, the store stocks major-league hats and T-shirts, all licensed by the NFL and NBL, at super-low prices.

Now’s the time to load up your shopping cart with holiday gifts. In fact, I plan to finish my Christmas shopping by Thanksgiving, now that I’ve discovered Cheap Maggie’s for presents and stocking stuffers.

The Hoboken store is open from 10 am to 9 pm six days a week, and 11 am to 7 pm on Sundays. The Morris Plains location is open from 10 am to 8 pm seven days, making it easy to pop in over lunch or after work.
