Inclusive and Accessible Playgrounds in New Jersey

Kids of all ages and abilities can enjoy these Garden State play areas.

Atsion Recreation Area

This spongy-surfaced playground with accessible equipment opened in Wharton State Forest last summer. There’s also an all-terrain wheelchair for use on accessible trails.

Field of Dreams

RWJBarnabas Health’s 3.5-acre complex in Toms River is designed to engage those with physical and psychological disabilities in sports and play. It has a wheelchair-accessible basketball and bocce court, baseball field, mini-golf course with no steps, and playground with zip line, swings, ramps, a music station and a quiet corner.

Jake’s Place Playground

These two playgrounds in Cherry Hill and Delran—created by a family to honor their son, Jake, who died from a cardiac condition as a child—feature sensory and tactile activities, a wheelchair-accessible glider, ramps and shaded areas.

Shai Shacknai Memorial Park

This spacious Wayne playground features adaptive swings, slides and ramps, plus sensory play items, a musical play corner, benches and more.

Tony’s Place at Seven Presidents Park

This year-round park and playground right off the beach in Long Branch features equipment for children with physical and psychological disabilities, and smooth surfaces to make motion safe.

Van Saun County Park

Amid this 130-acre park in Paramus is a playground with ADA-accessible equipment, wheelchair-accessible ramps and a handicap swing.
