Open: Lunch and dinner, daily

Price: $ BYO

Style: Casual Mexican eatery serving authentic, traditional dishes. Since there are just 12 small tables, many people order takeout. But try to resist the urge. The tables are covered in gaily colored striped Mexican cloths. Pull up a seat and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Jacobo family.

The Scoop: Ramiro and Bertha Jacobo opened El Guacamole last September in the space formerly occupied by Arugula. Their son and daughter often pitch in on weekends.

The Menu: Start with the excellent namesake guacamole; the portion is big enough to share. Hearty soups include mixed seafood; spicy, cilantro-laced shrimp; tripe; and corn pozole. Six different kinds of soft tacos come three to an order (pictured). The taco salad piles your choice of meat on fresh greens in a crisp taco bowl. Feel really hungry? Molcajete is for you: steak, chicken, rice and beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and Mexican sauce, all in a bowl.

Heads Up: El Guacamole’s parking lot holds only six cars, but there is usually ample street parking around the corner.
