Fast-Casual Indian Fusion Spot Opens in Union City; More Food News

VANZ Indian Fusion Grill, Union City

At this new fast-casual and women-owned eatery, flavors of Indian cuisine are paired with nutritious ingredients. Customers can build their own entrées or choose from a selection of signature dishes; everything can be made as a grain bowl, salad or wrap. Menu items include the Punjab power chicken, packed with vegetables, beans, chicken and Punjabi spices, or the Hyderabadi OG beef, featuring a blend of traditional spices, vegetables and tender beef. Online ordering is available.

Blue Anchor, Jersey City

Located in the Newport area of Jersey City, this new restaurant sits right off the Hudson River, overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Billed as “an elevated casual seafood experience,” Blue Anchor serves a variety of raw and cooked seafood options, as well as some steak, salad and pasta dishes. Menu items include raw oysters, lobster rolls, shrimp scampi, New England clam chowder and fish tacos. There’s also a full bar menu. Brunch is served on the weekends.

Diesel & Duke, Montclair

Diesel & Duke has been smashing fresh burgers and slinging creamy milkshakes since 2014. The joint originally opened in New Brunswick (now closed) and has since expanded to Princeton, Jersey City and Montclair, where it recently relocated to a new spot on Church Street. It serves single and double burgers, veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches with a variety of available toppings. Poutine, cajun fries, shakes and fried Oreos are also on the menu.

Felina, Summit

Included in NJM’s top restaurants of 2024, Felina and Felina Steak in Ridgewood and Jersey City, respectively, are popular spots in North Jersey, known for serving elevated Italian food and steak in elegant dining spaces. On Thursday, September 12, the latest location opened in Summit, serving up comforting dishes like bucatini cacio e pepe, rigatoni al ragu, chicken Milanese, prime New York strip steak and thyme-roasted branzino, plus cocktails, wine and beer. It’s now open for dinner daily, and is accepting online reservations.

Kooma Asian Fusion, Cherry Hill

New to the Cherry Hill Mall is a higher-end Asian fusion restaurant. Kooma, which has two other locations in Pennsylvania, serves a blend of Asian cuisine, including bibimbap (Korean rice bowl), stir-fry, noodles, sushi, sashimi and much more. In the colorful dining room, guests can sit at a table or along the sushi bar to watch the chefs work. Kooma also serves a variety of martinis and cocktails. The restaurant is located on the mall’s exterior, near the Apple store and Macy’s.
