Opening

Tommy’s Tavern + Tap, Cherry Hill

Classic bar food, shareable plates, burgers, salads, pizza, sushi and more are served at this upbeat tavern, plus an extensive list of draft beers, wines, housemade sangria, signature cocktails and non-alcoholic brews. This is Tommy’s ninth Jersey location, replacing the former Houlihan’s in the Garden State Park shopping center.

El Azteca, Waldwick

Tamales, empanadas, tacos and burritos are among the offerings at this Mexican eatery in Bergen County. This is El Azteca’s third location in five years; the other locations are in Park Ridge and Mahwah.

Ugly Dumpling Express, Holmdel

The xiao long bao—aka soup dumplings—at this fast-casual eatery really aren’t ugly at all! Most are steamed and colored in shades of pink, green, yellow and black. Other Asian staples found on the menu include orange chicken, spring rolls, wonton soup, fried rice and boba tea. Vegan versions of many dumplings and dishes are available. Ugly Dumpling’a original location is in Edison.

Mexiquila, Somers Point

This vibrant, elegant Mexican restaurant serves everything from chips and salsa flights and street tacos to Wagyu steak and grilled shrimp, plus innovative cocktails and tequila flights. Closed on Wednesdays.

Suma’s Kitchen, Voorhees

This “halal food emporium” serves a fusion of Pakistani, Indian, Mexican, American and Chinese cuisine. All dishes are halal-certified; many are nut-free, vegetarian and vegan. Nearly everything on the menu is under $20. Suma’s is open for lunch from noon-3 pm on the weekend; dinner until 10 pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 9 pm on Sunday.

Closing

Jersey Social, Jersey City

The casual yet classy cocktail bar and restaurant, which opened on Jersey Avenue in 2019, shut its doors for the last time in late March, per a sign pasted on its front door. Jersey Social served wine, beer, cocktails, American fare and weekend brunch.
