This year, the plunge will not be held in Seaside Heights, as it had been for the past six year. The decision to move the plunge was made after Hurricane Sandy devastated Seaside Heights. “This iconic shore town has welcomed us for the past six years, but now they need to focus solely on restoration efforts,” says Marc Edenzon, President of Special Olympics New Jersey.
Pier Village shops and restaurants will extend their hours on the day of the plunge to welcome participants and spectators. “We couldn’t be happier,” says Megan Oliveira, director of marketing and events at Pier Village. “We are one Jersey Shore. We welcome Seaside Heights with open arms and we are excited to show them a great time.”
Radio show host Big Joe Henry from 101.5 FM will broadcast live from McLoone’s Pier House with interviews, updates and a countdown.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the plunge will be at 1 p.m. For more information, visit www.njpolarplunge.org.
