6. Enjoy a hot drink at one of our favorite coffee or tea houses
Consult New Jersey Monthly’s list of best coffeehouses in the state to find a new spot to wrap your hands around a big, fragrant cup of coffee. A trip to a never-before-seen cafe may open your eyes to new scenery across the Garden State, or lead you to specialty drinks you never thought to try. Make it a challenge and try to visit a different coffee shop each weekend this fall.
7. Go for a bike ride
Make the most of the (still very) warm weather and bike a new trail. Just over 70 miles in all, the D&R Canal Towpath is home to a popular run cyclists can take from Frenchtown to Lambertville. The approximate 15-mile ride along the Delaware River is a great way to take in the fall sights and smells and connects two quaint towns—one of which was named as one of New Jersey Monthly’s favorite downtowns in 2015—for you to explore.
Another Option: New Jersey Monthly Editor Ken Schlager recommends Sussex County’s picturesque rail trails, which he rode in 2013.
8. Visit a farmer’s market
Stock up on honey, fruit, vegetables, flowers and more at your local farmers market. Many towns hold farmers markets beginning in the spring and some run late into the fall months through mid-November. Search for the closest market to you by county and support your local farmer.
9. Camp before it’s too cold
Leave your cellphone in the car and enjoy the company of friends and family around a warm campfire. Many campsites remain open all year round and continue to offer reservations for tent sites, cabins, yurts and lean-tos. A late-season camping trip is a great way to experience all fall has to offer in one spot, with most sites adorned with great views, trails, wildlife and changing scenery.
10. Fatten up for the winter
Although we all might despise putting on a few extra pounds over the colder months, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have fun doing it. Visit one of New Jersey Monthly’s Top 25 Best Restaurants to enjoy a hearty meal or consult NJM’s list of 16 hot towns to find out the best local eateries, bakeries and coffee shops to explore.

We are attending Dog Walk Of The Dead 5 on Saturday, October 21, at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta. It’s a fun event with the proceeds benefiting the One Step Closer Animal Rescue. Terrie Carr and WDHA 105.5 Radio will be there!
