Kudos to Rutgers University for becoming the first of New Jersey’s institutions of higher education with a program to provide relief for soaring textbook costs.

It Runs in the Family

The Happy Cook is the latest work from Daphne Oz, the Cliffside Park-bred best-selling author and cohost of ABC’s The Chew (also the daughter of TV health guru Dr. Oz). The beautifully illustrated cookbook combines quickie recipes (breakfast tacos), reconsidered classics (savory granola) and healthy desserts (black bean brownies). —Deborah P. Morning Musings

welike2
My weekday mornings are not complete without an hour of Jeff Spurgeon on 105.9 FM WQXR, classical music radio broadcast from Newark and New York. Your day might be a mystery, but you can count on Spurgeon’s “Morning Bach” segment and much-loved “Out-the-Door Dedications.” Spurgeon is like a living greeting card, complete with wit and corny sentiments. —Lauren Yobs, Research Assistant

Fun With Felines

welike3
I’ve never understood why more people don’t bring their cats along on vacations like they do their dogs. That’s why I love the adorable and informative website adventurecats.org. Recent stories: “Hiking with Cats: Tips for the Trail” and “This Cat Is Visiting all 59 National Parks.” —Joanna Buffum,  Associate Editor / Entertainment
