Doggone it—this is cuteness overload!
New Jersey photographers Lauren Kara Majors—who specializes in newborn and family photography—and Stephanie Blum—who does a lot of pet photography—recently joined forces for a newborn puppy photo shoot, and their adorable results are going viral, with more than 3.1 million views (and counting).

The idea took shape six weeks ago, with a shared Pinterest board quickly following. As for the subject of their photo shoot, that was an easy choice. Blum raises puppies for the Morristown nonprofit the Seeing Eye, so they planned to photograph the next dog she raised.

Timmy, a 7-week-old Black Lab, arrived at Blum’s home on May 11.
On shoot day, which took place at Blum’s studio, Majors carefully wrapped Timmy in a variety of fabrics and posed him delicately with some props—just like she does with her newborn human clients. Timmy slept for most of the hour-and-a-half shoot, and took breaks as needed.
Even though she typically works with babies and kids, Majors says she felt comfortable with this shoot because she’s had dogs throughout her life, including now, and loves being around them. “I’ve always wanted to do a puppy newborn shoot,” she says. “This has always been in the back of my mind.”

As for trying this type of photography at home, it could prove difficult, as not every pooch has the temperament that’s right for it. Timmy’s age also means that he sleeps most of the time, ideal for a shoot. Blum notes that Seeing Eye pups are “very used to being handled” and are “very well adjusted.”
Volunteers like Blum raise Seeing Eye puppies—who eventually go on to work as guide dogs for blind people—from the ages of seven or eight weeks until they’re 13 to 16 months old, teaching them skills like house manners and exposing them to various social situations. Get more information here.
