Meet the Winners of Our Inaugural Scavenger Hunt

From June through October of 2020, our most intrepid readers grabbed their cell phones and their face masks to take part in the inaugural Great New Jersey Monthly Scavenger Hunt. Their mission: to snap selfies at up to 36 iconic destinations around the Garden State—and to enjoy some socially distanced fun.

There were six categories, each with six destinations. Players who visited all six destinations in a category became eligible for a category-prize drawing—for Northern NJ, a $125 gift certificate to Calandra’s Mediterranean Grill; Historic Sites, a basket of Morris County-themed items from Morris County Tourism Bureau; and Central NJ, a $100 gift certificate to Williams Harley-Davidson in Lebanon. (For all other categories, players were entered in a random drawing for a $100 American Express gift card.)

The 27 players who visited all 36 destinations became eligible for the grand prize drawing (a $200 American Express gift card and a one-year subscription to New Jersey Monthly). The runner-ups in the random drawing in each category were awarded a 12-month subscription to New Jersey Monthly. The editors also chose one lucky winner in the maskie category (all selfies with masks were eligible) for a $50 American Express gift card. Below, we present a sampling of selfies from our winners.
