This ultra high-end retailer makes luxury home furnishings more affordable with occasional sales and specials. Sign up online for the store’s mailing list for advance notice. Bograd’s recently added a rug department and through March 20 is running a truckload sale on more than 500 rugs of various sizes and shapes from its New Jersey-exclusive Tufekian line. Crate & Barrel Outlet
315 Cranbury Half Acre Rd, Cranbury;
609-819-0200, crateandbarrel.com

This massive retail outlet has a warehouse feel, but it’s Crate & Barrel, the housewares and home furnishings giant, so who cares? There’s a ton of great stuff at a hefty discount—up to 50 percent less than a regular C&B store. You can stock up on entertainment essentials including wine glasses, ice buckets, candles and table linens, or dress up your sofa with pillows and throws. Inventory changes constantly. There’s also a huge scratch-and dent-furniture selection if you don’t mind doing a few touch-ups. Don’t buy more than you can handle; there’s no delivery service, so you have to take away your purchases yourself.

Curate Gifts
327 1/2 Millburn Ave, Millburn;
973-258-0400, curategifts.com

Created by two women who love to travel and shop, Curate Gifts offers unique gifts and one-of-a-kind artisan crafts gathered from all over the world —with many items under $50. Partners Mary Litterman and Debra Camitta opened Curate late last year to share (and sell) their finds. “Some of our items are great staples,” says Camitta. “Like the gorgeous leather credit card holders from Italy. At $18, they walk out of here on their own.” Other items, such as a stained-glass bowl with vintage beads and charms for $42, are one of a kind. If you can’t get to Millburn and the jam-packed store, there’s an easy-to-navigate website. Check out Debra’s & Mary’s Picks for more fabulous (and more pricey) finds.

Enjoy special privileges by joining Lloyd’s Passport Club: Get advance notification of new inventory arrivals (owner Jeffrey Silverman and his wife/buyer/interior designer, Ghislaine, a native of France, regularly scour Paris and the French countryside looking for unique pieces), receive discounts and special promotions and shop the Annual Floor Sample Sale every January before the general public.

Mona Lisa Framing
187A Maplewood Ave, Maplewood;
973-762-2777, monalisaframing.com

Create a classy look without a big cash outlay with a collection of framed botanicals. Beautiful old botanical prints and quirky modern interpretations can be obtained inexpensively then framed locally. Floral designer Jerry Rose suggests panteek.com and finerareprints.com as sources for the prints. He takes these inexpensive prints to his favorite framer, Mona Lisa Framing. Owner Krista Hyer, custom frames them and they end up looking like pricey art. Hyer suggests taking it even further.

“There’s a lot of charm in something old,” she says. “You can find wonderful old frames at a garage sale with loads of character. We can then cut them down to fit your art.” Grouped together, like this custom display in Rose’s home (left), they create a beautiful nod tonature at a fraction of the cost of
expensive prints and frames.
