Each year, New Jersey Monthly presents the Great Oak Awards to honor the state’s businesses, large and small, for their work on behalf of charitable causes and nonprofits. To date, the program, now in its fifth year, has recognized 40 of the Garden State’s most generous companies.
This year, the Great Oak Awards honor three companies as well as one individual— Newark native Ray Chambers—who will be presented with our inaugural Catalyst Award for individual philanthropy.
The 2018 Great Oak Awards honorees were chosen in a three-step process. In February, New Jersey Monthly sent a letter to a committee of 17 advisors—each an expert on New Jersey philanthropy—requesting nominations. Based on their recommendations, 20 companies and six individuals were identified as nominees. New Jersey Monthly reached out to the companies for details about their philanthropic activities. The editors of New Jersey Monthly chose the four winners, based on the company submissions, informational interviews and further research.
New Jersey Monthly will salute the 2018 Great Oak honorees at a gala dinner October 29 at NJPAC in Newark. We think you’ll agree the honorees are worthy of our gratitude for making New Jersey a better place to live and work.
