Style
Inside a historic grist mill, this casual, cozy coffee shop and café features farmhouse decor, tables adorned with old clippings from the Allentown Messenger, and a view overlooking Conines Millpond.
The scoop
The building was erected in 1706. Corky Danch bought it in 1975, restored it and outfitted it with a restaurant and shops. In 2015, Danch and his family opened the vegetarian and vegan Moth Coffeehouse on the first floor.
The menu
Moth goes beyond traditional coffee shop menus, offering a range of vegetable-based dishes and beverages. The Beet Burger (above) consists of a patty made from beets, brown rice, lentils and fennel served in a folded naan with cucumbers and a vegan tartar sauce. Other substational options include vegan mac ’n’ cheese, a vegan sausage sandwich, chickpea sliders and a daily soup. As a side, pick from a salad of mixed greens or a bag of kettle chips. Not everything is vegan; there’s a grilled cheese sandwich, egg salad sandwich and quiche. To satisfy a sweet tooth, choose from pastries, muffins and other house-made baked goods.
Heads up
Try a cup of hot coffee or cold brew, made from beans sourced from places such as Colombia, Ethiopia, Sumatra and Guatemala.
