Burger/Que
Basking Ridge
403 King George Road
908-484-7081
Open: Lunch and dinner, Tues-Sun; brunch, Sun
Price: $ BYO
Style: A hip, vibrant seat-yourself joint featuring burgers and barbecue. Rustic representations of cows, pigs and chickens line the teal and brick walls. Paper towels, utensils and barbecue sauces (house, smoky spice, peach) top each table.
The Scoop: Burger and barbecue enthusiasts Todd Sawicki and Frank Rizzo opened Burger/Que in late November 2016 in the Dewy Meadow Village shopping center.
The Menu: Order at the counter, find a table, and they bring you your food. The theme is decadence. A prime example is the Que (pictured), a burger topped with pulled pork, brisket, coleslaw and smoked Gouda; or the Being Cheese, a cheeseburger inside two (!) grilled cheese sandwiches. The Figaliscious is a grilled chicken sandwich with fig jam and brie; the Belly BLT tops pork belly with fried egg and avocado mayo. You can also get a brisket sandwich topped with onion straws and goat cheese, or order brisket from among the barbecue offerings, which include ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Burgers and sandwiches come with choice of fries, sweet potato fries or salad. Barbecued meat items come with one or more from a larger list of sides. Other goodies include Dorito-crusted pierogies.
Heads Up: Brunch is equally indulgent, with Frosted Flakes-crusted French toast and a bacon, egg and cheese between waffles.—Shelby Vittek
