Does the world need a better beach chair? A couple from Short Hills think the answer is yes. Leslie Hsu and Greg Besner have reinvented the standard beach chair by adding some creatively engineered comfort and style to the way we recline by the shoreline.

Drawing on their backgrounds in the fashion world, the husband-and-wife team began to reimagine the beach chair in 2017, after hauling a load of gear to the sand with their family. Hsu, a designer, worked with luxury brands such as Neiman Marcus and Henri Bendel. Besner worked with tech and fashion companies, including Armani.

Their new Sunflow beach chair debuted Memorial Day 2020 as a modern, innovative sand chair that provides solutions to beach problems we didn’t realize we had.

The compact design features a telescoping frame, multiple reclining positions, and a sturdy handle and strap. The chair retails for $198 and is available in an array of patterns and colors. Accessories include an adjustable sunshade ($48) and collapsible cup holder ($25).

“Sunflow is the convergence of fashion and function,” says Hsu. “Our hope is that this product fills a void by providing comfort and helping people enjoy their work-life balance.”

Sunflow is available at getsunflow.com, and at its retail location in the Short Hills Mall.
