Situated on Mendham Borough’s main drag, the circa-1830 Lillie House is blooming with new life these days. A floral design studio and home to gardener-florist Jillian McFadyen, the brick-red, salt-box cottage is an uber-hip backdrop for her fledgling side gig.
McFadyen, 31, who works full-time as Morris County Golf Club’s horticulturist, opts for naturalistic designs. The Lillie House specializes in fresh-cut arrangements and custom garden containers; the year-old business also offers a weekly floral subscription.
The backyard cutting garden is open to green-thumbers who participate in workshops that feature lush, earthy arrangements created with blossoms and flowering branches. Workshops, on-site and off, are also available for private parties.
“Relying on local sustainable flowers, I believe each season can offer something compelling and unique without having to ship flowers from across the world,” McFadyen says. “I’m proud to support fellow local growers to give back to the community.”
McFadyen’s Spring Bounty workshop takes place Sunday, April 24, from 1–3 pm. For more information or to sign up, visit Lillie House’s website.
