About Carlos Alberto Sagebien
With a legacy spanning over five decades, University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) has been a prominent leader in delivering exceptional orthopaedic care to patients across New Jersey. A division of the largest orthopaedic group in the state, this established organization is committed to serving the community through their involvement in medical education, pioneering clinical and bench research, and participation in local health initiatives.
Board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons Drs. Chiappetta, Gatt, Harwood, Leddy, McDonnell, Monica, and Sagebien perform elective procedures and treat traumatic orthopaedic injuries at two area trauma centers. Their expertise as diagnosticians and innovators is further demonstrated by their academic appointments at Rutgers RWJ Medical School.
These surgeons provide the full spectrum of orthopaedic services, utilize the latest minimally invasive techniques, and are equipped to handle the most complicated surgical cases. UOA encompasses state-of-the-art imaging, rehabilitation, and sports performance training for adolescent and adult patients.
UOA partners with University Center for Ambulatory Surgery (UCAS) at their Somerset facility. Procedures such as hip, knee, and shoulder replacement, spine surgery, and motion preservation surgery with artificial disc replacement are carried out with small incisions and enhanced pain management techniques, including opioid-sparing surgery.
UOA’s expertise extends beyond patient care, as the physicians also serve as orthopaedic consultants to athletic departments at Princeton, Rider, and Rutgers universities, the Somerset Patriots minor league baseball team, and many local high schools. Their unwavering commitment to excellence and active engagement with the community distinguishes them as a prominent leader in the health-care field.
