Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing

Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they host the 248th Anniversary of the Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing on Sunday, November 24th 10 am-4 pm.

Join BCHS Past President Jim Smith for a reading of the American Crisis at the New Bridge.

Then travel back to November 20th, 1776, and witness George Washington and General Greene on horseback as they lead the evacuating American troops across The Bridge that Saved a Nation to escape the invading British army and defend the New Bridge from the King’s forces.

Reenactors will also be on site throughout the day performing military drills and talking about military life in the American Revolution.

All three-18th century Jersey-Dutch sandstone houses including the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be open for tours throughout the day.

On display in the Steuben House will be new exhibits and Revolutionary War artifacts from the society’s extensive collection.

Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy donuts and hot cider which will be available for purchase inside the tavern.

Don’t forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters will be cooking seasonal 18th century recipes on the open hearth.

Activities for families to include a scavenger hunt with a prize will be available throughout the afternoon.

Ticket reservations are encouraged: $15 adults, $10 BCHS members, students under 18 are free.

Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line.

Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
