STYLE

Square laminate tables and wooden chairs in the dining room, with a bar that runs the length of the restaurant. The pale gold walls and wood trim haven’t changed since the 1950s. The name Conte’s is spelled out in red glass bricks in the base of the bar. Three big screens behind the bar usually show sports. The vibe is a bit noisy, but friendly.

THE SCOOP

In 1936, Sebastiano Conte opened a bar on a vacant lot with tables and chairs for card games and, outside, a bocce court. The first pizza was served on October 13, 1950. Conte’s nephews, Ciro and Anthony, took over after Sebastiano retired in 1982.

THE MENU

Thin-crust pizza is a must. It comes in small, medium or large, with a range of classic toppings. (The sausage is made in-house.) There’s spaghetti or penne (with marinara only, or with meatballs or sausage). Sandwiches are available, as are house-made seasonal soups. There’s a full bar.

HEADS UP

Conte’s offers gluten-free pizza and pasta. There are parking lots in the front and back of the restaurant.
