STYLE

Soft lighting adds to a modern yet rustic look, with matte-black chairs and wood tabletops. Framed posters of cartoon versions of popular Japanese and Peruvian dishes line the walls.

THE SCOOP

Executive chef Lawrence Talis and head chef Luis Blasini opened this summer to serve authentic Nikkei cuisine, combining Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques. The place gets its name from being seven doors down from parent Blue Steel Pizza Company.

THE MENU

Start with Japanese- or Peruvian-inspired appetizers, like shrimp bao buns or salchipapas, a straightforward dish of sliced hot dogs and smoked potato chunks. Ramen’s a must, but there are eight to choose from. Pick a classic like chicken or duck ramen, or a nouveau like B.L.T or 48-hour short rib. For dessert, good options include strawberries and pisco, the fruit topped with creamy pisco zabaglione, or crispy black-sesame meringue bark.

HEADS UP

It’s BYO, but before or after dinner, you might want to stroll down the street for cocktails at Blue Steel Pizza Company.
