Weaving through the Mile-Square City’s narrow, clogged streets in pursuit of that elusive parking spot can drive a person mad. Enter pedal power.
Kicking off on the 15th, the Symposia Bookstore on Washington Street will sponsor its third annual community bicycle project, HoBiken (hobiken.com).
The bookstore offers twenty bicycles by the day free to city residents, while out-of-towners may rent one for $5 (with identification and a $20 deposit). The bikes are provided by volunteers, who collect and refurbish them. “The community enjoys this because of the big parking problem in Hoboken,” says Symposia director Corneliu Rusu. Riders sometimes even accessorize their bikes. “I receive a lot of bells,” Rusu says.
