Quick Bite

Minuteman Family Restaurant

Minuteman Family Restaurant
990 Mt. Kemble Avenue, Morristown

Hours: Mon–Fri, 7 am-8 pm; Sat-Sun, 8 am–8 pm.

Price: $/$$

Style: Reasonably priced country-style diner, originally a milk barn. Inside and out, it looks today much as it did when it opened in 1962. Located on the border of historic Morristown and Harding Township, the Minuteman’s 1776 theme comes to life with colonial decor, knotty-pine walls and dishes named for patriots.

Don’t Miss: Thomas Paine burger with Swiss on grilled rye ($8.95); George Washington pancakes with bacon, sausage or pork roll ($6.25) and Betsy Ross French toast ($5.50). Breakfast is served all day. Locals love Minuteman for takeout, leaving with sacks of burgers, club sandwiches, wraps and milkshakes. Other popular picks are New England clam chowder ($3.95), beer-battered cod ($13.95) and Cajun chicken breast ($13.95). Wi-Fi is free.

Heads Up: Since the 1970s, Minuteman has been prized for its pies baked on premises. Between takeout and restaurant service, the bakery turns out 25,000 pies a year. Choose from fruit favorites plus pecan, coconut custard, chocolate cream, lemon meringue and no-sugar-added apple. Enjoy your slice, plain or à la mode. The milkshake and root beer float ($3.75 each) harken back to the golden era of soda-fountain treats.

The Scoop: Fridays and Saturdays—Prime Rib Nights ($16.95-$19.95)—get busy, so come early and bring your own bottle.
