Carlucci’s Bistro
Whitehouse Station
653 Route 22 East

Open: Lunch, Tues-Fri; dinner, Mon-Sat

Style: An inviting, classic Italian restaurant with tan walls, crown moldings and Tuscan-inspired decor. There’s a take-out counter separated from the dining area, which itself is sectioned into three small rooms.

The Scoop: Owners Thomas and Jennifer DeFazio opened Carlucci’s in 2016. The couple also own Lebanon Plaza Deli in Lebanon and Gladstone Market in Gladstone.

The Menu: Start with the garlic knots, served with sauce, or a half-order of bruschetta. You’ll be tempted, but don’t fill up on appetizers—entrée portions are generous. There are pastas aplenty, including a classic carbonara, eggplant rollatini and baked ziti. Panini are served on your choice of a sub roll or focaccia; options include eggplant parmigiana (pictured), chicken cutlet and cheese steak. The highly customizable calzones, strombolis and pizza are all made with fresh dough and can be topped or stuffed with any number of traditional ingredients. Daily dinner specials have included seafood fra diavolo; cavatelli with sausage, broccoli rabe and white wine sauce; and rosemary lamb chops.

Heads Up: Lunch specials are offered on weekdays; portions are smaller and quite affordable, often around $10 or less. If available, order a slice of the excellent eggplant tart from the cold case to go.
