STYLE
The Buttered Biscuit is a downtown café with a French-inspired Southern menu and counter and table seating. The décor is upscale bistro style: chandeliers, white curtains, framed prints.
THE SCOOP
Married couple Liz and Dave McAllister opened in 2011. Dave is a Spring Lake native who has worked in restaurants since he was 14. Liz’s great, grandparents owned an eatery in Asbury Park.
THE MENU
For breakfast, start with Liz’s house-made signature biscuits served with cinnamon butter. Then try Dave’s corned beef hash—made in a five-hour, six-step process. House-made granola and Liz’s biscuits and gravy are also good picks. Lunch dishes are served with house-made slaw and pickles. Try the crispy fish sandwich—beer-battered haddock on a hard roll with lettuce, tomato and Dave’s special tartar sauce—or the meatloaf with garlic butter, sautéed spinach, caramelized onions, Gorgonzola and homefries.
