Did you know that this Saturday is “Girls’ Day”?
It is in Japan, where it’s called Hinamatsuri and is marked every March 3 with a festival that celebrates the health and happiness of females of all ages.
It’s being celebrated this Saturday, March 3 at Mitsuwa, the Japanese uber-market located at 595 River Road in Edgewater.
Traditionally, the dish served at this celebration is chirashi sushi, a colorful array of fishes splayed over sushi rice, and it will be featured at Mitsuwa as well.
A tip for newcomers to both Mitsuwa and Girls’ Day celebrations: Located in the food court at Mitsuwa is Cafe Akira, where to-go packs of chirashi sushi will be on special for $14.90. Quantities are limited.

There’s a new festival planned for this spring in Cape May.
The first Sip Into Spring Festival will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, May 12 at the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington Street in Cape May.
Presented by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities, the event will spotlight wines, craft beers, cocktails and a variety of foods from local vendors that include Empanada Mama, Seaside Cheese, Crespella and Matt’s BBQ. Gardening workshops are planned as well as seminars set for 1 pm and again at 2:15 pm called “Slicing & Dicing: Watermelons and More,” with chef Joseph Poon; tickets are $20.
While admission to the grounds is free, there will be a charge for certain activities, as well as for food and beverages.
