STYLE
Bright, casual restaurant with counter service and a handful of tables and booths. House-made baked goods on display, along with Jameson’s private-label sodas.
THE SCOOP
Opened in 1994 by Vietnam vet Robert A. Jameson, a hands-on owner and a friendly presence, welcoming patrons and sharing his wealth of knowledge about resources for veterans.
THE MENU
The fried chicken is a much-buzzed-about must-try, with the fried whiting a close second. Carnivores may crave chopped beef barbecue and short ribs with house-made sauce. Dinners come with a corn muffin and two sides. Choose potato salad or macaroni-and-cheese, as well as string beans, collard greens, cabbage, or black-eyed peas, which are seasoned with smoked turkey. Dessert options are plentiful: banana pudding, carrot cake, red velvet cake, sweet potato pie and peach cobbler, among others.
HEADS UP
A short ride from Ocean Grove, Asbury Park and Bradley Beach, Jameson’s keeps the daily newspaper on hand for guests, and ample parking is available. Last seating is one hour prior to close. BYO.
