Jersey City Adds To Its Dining Roster

Openings and closings around the state.

Don’t you think that “More New Restaurants Planned in Jersey City” could be a weekly headline?

Indeed, there are more new restaurants coming to the bustling ‘burg.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse already has a location in nearby Weehawken, but that’s not stopping the national chain from taking over a space at 499 Washington Boulevard in the former home of Azucar Cuban in the heart of the Newport neighborhood. No official opening date yet.

On a smaller scale, a noodle-dumpling-rice house called Pinwheel Garden is being built out now by brothers Steve and Albert Tseng at 318 Communipaw Avenue. Scheduled to open later this month, lunch and dinner will be served at the BYO.

Already open and serving lunch and dinner is East Village Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar at 515 Jersey Avenue in the ex-Big Chef space. It’s a multi-cuisine Asian BYO. 201-309-0259.

Meanwhile, other towns in New Jersey are hosting, or very soon will be hosting, new eateries:

Sweet Green Cafe, 25 North Spruce Street in Ramsey, is a vegan restaurant now serving breakfast and lunch; dinner is planned. BYO. 201-661-8905; sweetgreencafenj.com.

Zinburger Wine and Burger Bar, 1003 Route 1 in Edison (Edison Towne Square), is part of the fast-growing chain. Its name says it all—or most of it. Lunch and dinner are served. 973-567-1613; zinburgereast.com.

Delhi D Lites India, 411 Route 206 in Hillsborough, joins a panoply of casual restaurants in this neck of the suburban community. BYO. 908-262-2464.

Closed:
Colorado Cafe, the country-themed spot with a mechanical bull for entertainment at 154 Bonnie Burn Road in Watchung, has shuttered.

Down the road:
Hidden Sands Brewing Company is renovating the space at 6754 Washington Avenue in Egg Harbor Township. A summer opening is planned. Brews on tap will take advantage of the local “800 Food Sands” aquifer for water—hence the name Hidden Sands. For more information, visit hiddensands.com.
