Temporary Closure:

Battello Restaurant, Jersey City

Out of an abundance of caution for its staff and guests, Battello announced it is temporarily closing for the month of January. The restaurant is looking forward to re-opening in February in time for a special Valentine’s Day event. On their last two days before closing (January 1 and 2), the Italian eatery gave 50 percent of all revenue to its employees. Reservations can still be made for the future, and gift cards can be purchased while the restaurant is closed.

Openings:

Mochinut, Norwood

The famous mochi donut chain will be coming to Norwood early next week, making it New Jersey’s second location after one opened in Fort Lee last September. Each “mochinut” is made of sweet rice flour,  the primary ingredient for mochi. The shop will offer a variety of mochi donut flavors, like cookies and cream, chocolate and glazed, that will rotate weekly. More creative flavors on the menu include black sesame, ube, matcha and churro. ChungChun, Mochinut’s sister outlet, will also be in the Norwood space, serving Korean rice hot dogs and rolled in toppings like ramen noodles and crispy potatoes.

Sombrero Tacoria, Ridgewood

What started as a family food truck serving Mexican style cuisine became a popular location in Totowa. Now, the family behind Sombrero Tacoria opened their second location in Ridgewood just before the new year. Their menu contains all the Mexican favorites like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas with homemade salsas and sauces. Housemade agua frescas are also on the menu, including horchata (sweet rice milk with cinnamon) and mango y pina (refreshing juice with a hint of vanilla). Open Monday-Saturday from 10:30 am-1 0pm and Sunday 11 am-8 pm.

Their menu includes pita sandwiches (with your choice of Greek beef patty, falafel, sliced lamb and more), salads (like the Santorini Salad with spinach, walnuts, feta and cranberries), and Greek classics like stuffed grape leaves, spanakopita, and fresh drips like tzatziki and hummus. Open Monday-Saturday 11 am-8 pm and Sundays noon-8 pm. Order online for takeout and delivery.
