Drifthouse in Sea Bright Debuts New Charitable Dining Option

Plus: Other dining events in New Brunswick, Gibbsboro and Morristown.

David Burke’s Drifthouse in Sea Bright recently partnered up with B-Causes, a charitable platform that functions as a discount buyer’s club. Businesses create special deals to attract consumers, who then choose a charity from B-Causes’s roster of registered nonprofits to receive a percentage of the night’s transaction. For its partnership, Drifthouse has created a special $100 gift card for dinner for two for just $65, with 15 percent of the total bill going to the charity of their choice. Burke plans to participate with B-Causes with all his properties. 1485 Ocean Avenue, Sea Bright; 732-530-9760

Hudson County Restaurant Week
July 23 – August 3

For the 14th year in a row Hudson County is sharing the multicultural culinary wealth with special summer dining deals (they do the same in January). “Week” is a misnomer, as deals at the 40-odd participating restaurants run through Friday, August 3. Restaurants span the gamut from Cuban, Italian, and modern American to steak and seafood, with hot spots like Talde in Jersey City or Halifax in Hoboken likely to fill up quickly. Prices don’t include taxes, tip, or beverages, and not every restaurant participates every day, so check with them—and make reservations—in advance. Parking depends on each venue. Locations vary. Hudson County, New Jersey.

New Brunswick Restaurant Week
Now – July 28

New Brunswick is also participating in a restaurant week. Read the fine print before you make a reservation as not all deals are created equal. Of the near-30 participating restaurants, some offer discounts and free desserts, some, such as the Frog and the Peach, are offering lunch and dinner prix fixe menus, and then there’s Steakhouse 85 and its $99 “Date Night Special” for foodies in love.

Bonus: if you can somehow hit 10 spots between now and July 28, you can enter to win a New Brunswick Experience Package with discounts on restaurants and local arts and culture. Locations vary. New Brunswick.

Conquer the Grill at the Chophouse
Wednesday, July 25 7 PM – 10 PM

The Chophouse in Gibbsboro knows how to handle meat, and they want to help you get a handle on it, too. Chef Markese Beverly offers a hands-on grilling lesson tomorrow, with topics like searing, dry rub vs. marinade, and even grilling vegetables. Chef Beverly will also demonstrate how to break down a yellowfin tuna. No matter your grilling pitfalls, you’ll eat well. Tickets are $115 for the night and can be purchased here. 4 Lakeview Drive South, Gibbsboro; 856-566-7300

Soup Days at Blue Morel
July and August, lunch and dinner

Every day in the months of July and August, for every bowl of soup ordered, Blue Morel in Morristown will donate $2 to the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center in Morristown. Chefs Dennis Mathews and Thomas Ciszak had been donating $1 for every soup ordered—at lunch or dinner—but recently decided to double contributions. Current seasonal soups include sweet corn with heirloom tomatoes and lavender, and a tomato passata with basil crème and toasted brioche croutons. 2 Whippany Road, Morristown; 973-451-2619
