Openings and Closings

Adam Rose, previously executive chef at NICO Kitchen & Bar at NJPAC in Newark, Restaurant Passioné in Montclair and Bin 14 Trattoria & Wine Bar in Hoboken, is the chef/owner of the newly opened Villalobos, 6 South Fullerton Ave, Montclair (973-337-6667). The 1,800 square-foot space features an open kitchen, bar seating and dining area. Menu items include yellowfin tuna with watermelon; guacamole with smoked tomatillo and sea urchin; crispy pork skin with lime, morita and queso fresco; chili-braised chicken; adobo-roasted pork; grilled skirt steak; braised goat in red mole with plantains; braised rabbit in Oaxacan green mole; and grilled shrimp with jicama curtido, romaine and cherry-tomato salsa. Though BYO, a drink menu is offered including agua frescas, Mexican sodas and slushies. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday; BYO.


Corner Bakery Café, a fast, casual restaurant serving made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner has opened at 6400 Hadley Road, across from the Middlesex Mall, South Plainfield (908-769-6177).

Frankie’s Lakeside Tavern, 172 Lackawanna Drive, Stanhope (973-347-3300).

Glaze Donuts, 358 River Road, New Milford ((201) 483-8634) has opened selling donuts, baked goods, homemade crepes and Peet’s Coffee.

Greek Delights in Montclair, which closed in May, has relocated to 320 Main Street, West Orange (862-704-6269) as Athena’s Greek Kitchen. Open daily for lunch and dinner; BYO.

Habit Burger, featuring burgers made with 100 percent, freshly ground—never frozen—beef, has opened at 3101 Promenade Boulevard, Fair Lawn (201-475-3800). Other menu items include sandwiches, salads and sides.

Juice Basin, featuring organic, cold-pressed juices, has opened at 631 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair (973) 744-0120).

La Cocineros, a Mexican, take-out only eatery, has opened at 200 Main St (#9 with the entrance on Schlosser Street), Fort Lee (201-461-9800). Open daily from 3 PM to 10 PM.

Momma’s Kitchen, a casual Italian restaurant, has opened at 15 West Grand Ave, Montvale (201-746-9777); BYO. The site was previously 15 Grand. Menu items include thin-crust pizzas, pasta, entrees and various styles of meatballs, which can be ordered as an entrée or sandwich. For dessert, create your own ice cream sandwich with choice of cookie and ice cream, as well as made to order doughnuts.

Tequila Joe’s, 1271 Rt 22 W, Bridgewater (908-722-5637).

Velo Eatery, offering contemporary American food, has opened at 1616 Rt 9, Toms River (732-569-6153); BYO. Menu items include seafood bouillabaisse; Portuguese braised pork with clams; herb-crusted NY strip; grilled marinated tofu; and fish and chips. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 AM, serving lunch and dinner.

A Caribbean, vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan-friendly restaurant and juice bar, Vital, has opened at 387 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair (973-655-9500); BYO. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, 11 AM to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to11 PM and Sunday,  9 AM to 8 PM.
