When we walked into Pig & Prince during the holiday season, we smiled as we looked right and left and then up at the vaulted brick ceiling with its steel girders. The eye-catching space, which is located in the former Lackawanna train terminal—opened in 1913 and closed in February 1981—was decorated beautifully for the holidays with wreaths, garlands and oversized ornaments. The embellishments were as impressive as the food.

You could “hear the train a comin'” and the chatter of happy diners at De Novo (Latin for “from the beginning, afresh, beginning again or anew”). The newly opened restaurant by chef Demetri Malki, previous owner of Table 8 and D'metri's in Montclair, is located in a beautifully refurbished historic train station in Upper Montclair. This casual restaurant will have us “down by the station” often.
